Netflix has taken steps to reduce password sharing on its platform by allowing members to manage who has access to their accounts. Starting in Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain, Standard or Premium plan members can add an additional member sub-account at a cost of CAD 7.99 per person per month in Canada, NZD 7.99 in New Zealand, EUR 3. 99 in Portugal and EUR 5.99 in Spain
The video-streaming giant has been exploring ways to address password sharing in Latin America over the past year and is now ready to roll out these solutions more broadly. Members can transfer their profile to a new account, continue watching Netflix on their personal devices or log into a new TV.
Netflix lost subscribers in the first half of 2022 due to fierce competition, leading the company to take a closer look at password sharing and launch an ad-supported plan. The company has previously introduced a feature called "Profile Transfer" to tackle the issue of password sharing, which allows users who share an account to keep their personalized recommendations, viewing history, My List, saved games, and other settings when they create their own account.
