The November 1 deadline for the WhatsApp update has arrived and the instant messaging app owned by Meta (formerly Facebook) will stop working on millions of Android and iPhone smartphones.
The latest elimination affects those who use WhatsApp for work or personal use, as long as their device is among the 50 smartphones listed in this post. Affected users will need to update their software or purchase a new smartphone.
Why will WhatsApp stop working on those smartphones?
From time to time, WhatsApp updates its software requirements for supported operating systems. There are several reasons why the company does this. However, one of the main reasons the company does this is for security reasons, as smartphones with an outdated operating system pose a huge security risk.
The second reason is that the new features that will make the application stand out cannot be implemented on a smartphone with an outdated operating system. However, sometimes older operating systems lose support when only a small percentage of users are running that version of the operating system and therefore it will not be profitable to continue working on very old versions of Android, iOS, etc.

As of today, WhatsApp will only work on smartphones running Android 4.1 and later, iOS 10 and later, and phones with KaiOS 2.5.1 and later, i.e. JioPhone and JioPhone 2.
